Slate is a hard, dense and finely grained stone that can be recognized by its distinct cleft pattern.  Slate is often used for fabricating fireplace surroundings and tabletops.  Slate is ideal for use in high traffic areas such as foyers, entry ways, interior floors, basements, outside terraces and sunrooms and will endure for centuries.
