Volcanic stone is formed from molten lava flows. The most common type is Basalt. We recommend it for use in flooring, cladding and worktops, but not in wet areas as it is quite porous, with a similar porosity to coarser grained limestones and sandstones. It has a subtle appearance, giving a soft, warm feel, rather than perhaps the stark appearance and high shine of marble for example. It looks best in large format tiles on floors.
While we hope you find these sample images useful in making an initial
selection we must emphasise that there is no substitute for inspecting
physical samples in person to appreciate the colour and texture of
materials. We would encourage you to visit our London showroom to see the wide selection of stone available.
